The "Torogan" - Maranao Royal House

This is the picture of the controversial "Torogan House" which I took during my overnight stay in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bagac Bataan. A Torogan was a symbol of high social status of maranao, a tribal people occupying the land around Lake Lanao situated in the central part of Lanao del Sur. The province where I was born in 1964 during the Philippine Resettlement Era. My father was among the first settlers in Wao Lanao del Sur, my birth place. History will tell us that this torogan was once the residence of Sultan or Datu in the Maranao Community, The last habitable torogan was declared as a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines.

Mountain Trekkers

There are so much to say about Mt. Timbak, the 3rd Highest Mountain in Luzon. Though we started trekking a little bit late in the morning but still it is freezing out there. You need to protect your hands by wearing "guantes" or globes. Trekkers are advised to wear proper jacket. When our group reached the peak, we wasted no time. Armed with cellphones and cameras, we took pictures of ourselves in almost every directions using Mt. Pulag and Mt. Timbayok as backgrounds.    See how happy these young people are. At age 55, joining them makes me feel younger and in better condition.
